There are moments when the most useful response to a feed is not adjusting settings or trimming accounts, but simply logging off entirely for a stretch of time, recognising that no amount of curation fully replaces the value of genuine distance every so often. No amount of careful curation fully substitutes for simply stepping away from the feed for a while.

Knowing when this moment has arrived often comes down to a fairly simple internal signal: continued scrolling no longer feels like a choice but more like an automatic default, one worth interrupting deliberately rather than continuing out of pure habit. That signal is worth trusting even when the content on screen still looks perfectly ordinary and unremarkable.

Logging off entirely, even briefly, tends to restore a sense of perspective that gradual adjustments alone rarely achieve, offering a clear enough break to notice habits and patterns that are much harder to see clearly from inside the constant flow of a feed. A short, deliberate break often reveals patterns that were genuinely invisible from inside the constant flow of a feed.
