A brief pause before sharing something, even just a few seconds, gives a chance to ask a simple question: is this something I have actually verified, or something I am passing along purely because of how it made me feel in the moment it first appeared in front of me.

This habit matters most for content that arrives with a strong emotional charge, since that is precisely the content most likely to be shared without a second look. The stronger the pull to share instantly, the more useful that small pause tends to be, since urgency itself is often exactly the thing worth questioning.

Building the habit does not require becoming suspicious of everything. It simply means treating the urge to share immediately as a signal worth noticing, rather than an instruction to act on automatically every single time it appears, regardless of how convincing or urgent the content happens to feel.
