Recognising Your Own Scroll Triggers
Launch library · evergreen read

A scroll trigger is whatever small cue tends to pull someone into an open ended scrolling session: boredom, a stressful moment, or simply picking up a phone out of habit rather than any real intention. Recognising these triggers is the first step toward having more choice around them, rather than reacting to them automatically every single time.
Triggers are often less about the content itself and more about the moment a person reaches for their phone. The same app can feel completely different depending on whether someone opens it with a specific purpose or simply as a reflex to fill an uncomfortable silence that has nothing to do with the app at all.
Noticing a trigger in the moment it happens, without judgement, creates a small pause that was not there before. That pause does not guarantee a different choice, but it turns an automatic habit into something closer to an actual decision, made consciously rather than simply falling into a pattern without noticing it at all.
