Relatable content spreads because sharing it doubles as a small act of self expression. Posting something that captures an oddly specific feeling lets a viewer say, quietly, that this is what my life is like too, without needing to write a caption of their own explaining exactly what they mean by any of it.

Novelty draws attention but rarely sustains it in the same way. A strange or shocking clip earns a look, yet relatable content earns identification, and identification is what tends to prompt the actual act of sharing rather than simply the act of watching something curiously and then moving straight on to the next thing.

The strongest relatable content threads a careful needle: specific enough to feel true rather than generic, but broad enough that a wide audience can still see themselves in it somewhere. Too specific and it isolates, too broad and it says nothing at all, leaving very little worth actually passing along to anyone else in the end.
