Defining Clout

Clout refers to a kind of informal social currency built from visibility, followers, and recognisable influence within a particular online space or community, a form of status measured less by any formal achievement and more by how widely and favourably someone happens to be known.
Clout is often pursued quite deliberately, through consistent posting, association with already recognised accounts, or active participation in whatever is currently gaining attention. This treats visibility itself as a goal worth chasing independent of any other underlying accomplishment or actual skill. None of this requires any lasting achievement, only sustained visibility within whichever space currently matters most.
Because clout is tied so closely to a specific platform and moment in time, it can fade quickly once attention moves elsewhere, distinguishing it from more durable forms of reputation that tend to persist well beyond any single trend or particular platform cycle. Reputation built through other means tends to survive a shift in platform far better than clout ever does.
