Left unchecked, a feed optimised purely for what you already like can quickly narrow into a repetitive loop, showing endless variations of the same handful of themes over and over again. Many platforms now deliberately inject variety to counter this, mixing in content slightly outside your usual pattern of engagement.
This injected diversity serves two purposes at once. It keeps a feed from feeling stale to the viewer, and it also gives the platform fresh data about interests you might have that your past behaviour alone would never have revealed on its own without this small, deliberate nudge in a new direction.
The balance between comfort and variety is a constant tuning problem for platforms, since too much familiar content risks boredom, while too much unfamiliar content risks losing a viewer's attention before anything new has a genuine chance to prove itself worthwhile to that particular viewer at all, which is a genuinely difficult line to hold.
