Reposting Versus Resharing: Knowing the Difference

Resharing keeps a post attached to its original source, using a platform's built in tools so viewers can see exactly where the content came from and follow the trail back if they want to. Reposting, by contrast, often uploads the content fresh, detaching it from that original context entirely and presenting it as though it simply appeared on its own.
The difference matters more than it might first appear. A reshare sends attention, and sometimes followers, back to the creator. A repost, even when well intentioned, tends to keep all of that attention with the account that uploaded it, regardless of who actually made the content, which quietly shifts credit away from wherever it originally belonged.
Choosing to reshare rather than repost, where the option exists, is one of the simplest ways to support the people whose work is worth passing along, without requiring anything more than picking the right button and taking a moment to check which option a platform actually offers before posting.
