Muting an account, a specific keyword, or an entire topic offers a much quieter, calmer alternative to engaging directly with unwanted content that drains attention without adding anything genuinely useful in return. It removes the content from view entirely, without the friction, or the audience, that a public reply would otherwise invite into the ongoing conversation.

This option is often overlooked in favour of engaging, arguing, or simply enduring content that provokes a negative reaction, when muting achieves the more practical goal directly and quietly: less exposure to whatever was causing the reaction in the first place, without any of the accompanying drama.

Building a habit of muting rather than reflexively engaging shifts a feed gradually over time, without requiring any dramatic account level decisions along the way. It simply reduces the presence of whatever consistently adds friction without adding much genuine value back in return over the long run.
